PLAY AND ART THERAPY

Program Details

Play and Art therapy boosts children’s self-esteem, helps children to articulate their feelings through words, learn social behaviours, reduce the impact of trauma, enhance well-being, communicate their thoughts, improve their relationship with peers and family, gain a sense of accomplishment, reduce anxiety, stress and improve mental wellbeing.

The activities in this program will offer:

  • Play activities by using toys to facilitate expression and feelings.

  • Techniques include role-playing, puppets, storytelling, sand trays, and a variety of building blocks.

  • Art therapy incorporates drawing, coloring, and poetry to express self and process emotions.

  • Skill-building activities focus on specific skills to regulate emotional regulation, social interactions, setting reasonable boundaries, and coping mechanisms.

  • Mindfulness grounding exercises such as yoga and breathing exercises can also be integrated with play therapy.

  • Emotionally focused family therapy provides an understanding of children’s behaviors in terms of attachment needs of comfort and support.

Integrating play therapy techniques and emotionally focused family therapy can help guardians understand a child’s needs for affection and comfort.
